A leaking or damaged tap can make a water cooler difficult to use. Before attempting a repair, identify the tap type and the cooler model. The correct repair depends on the construction and the condition of the parts.
Why can a cooler tap leak?
A fragment of bottle-neck wrapping, a piece of the bottle cap or scale may prevent a seal from closing. A worn seal or a damaged tap component can also require attention. These are possible causes, not a diagnosis for every cooler.
If the tap body or another component is damaged, check whether a replacement part is available for the particular model. Do not choose a replacement by appearance alone.

Before working on the tap
Disconnect the cooler from the power supply before starting work. Allow hot water to cool, then remove the bottle and drain the water in accordance with the instructions for your model. Do not work on a hot or powered appliance.
The tools and access method depend on the cooler. Check the manufacturer’s instructions before dismantling it. If you are not familiar with the construction, contact a service centre instead of forcing the fittings or attempting an electrical repair.
Identify the control type
- Cup-operated taps: check the paddle and the sealing components appropriate to that tap.
- Lever taps: the lever mounting and seal are among the components to inspect.
- Button-operated controls: identify the actual valve and operating mechanism before ordering a part.
- Electrically operated valves: diagnosis and repair should be handled by a technician familiar with the model.

Repair or replace?
A removable obstruction, a worn seal and a cracked tap body require different solutions. Compare the condition of the original part, the availability of compatible components and the cost of service. A part listed for another model is not automatically compatible.
For help choosing a replacement or arranging service, use the current details on the Contacts page. Provide the cooler model and clear photographs of the tap and its connection.
